Britney Spears Missing Drug Tests
LOS ANGELES - An attorney for Kevin Federline says Federline’s ex-wife, U.S. pop star Britney Spears, is not complying with requests for court-ordered random drug tests.
Lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan appeared in court in Los Angeles Thursday, and told the official who is overseeing the couple’s custody battle for their two young sons that Spears did not respond in a timely manner to eight out of 14 random drug test requests, People.com reported.
The singer has already been reprimanded three times by Commissioner Scott Gordon for not being reachable by phone.
“Mr. Federline doesn’t want to take these children out of their mother’s life, but what are we to do?” Kaplan said.
A missed drug test is considered a failed test.
Spears’ lawyer, Anne Kiley, argued that Spears tested drug-free on 10 occasions and also explained the singer frequently has to change her phone number because the wrong people obtain of it. Kiley also suggested an early call time for a random drug test is not always convenient for a pop star with a new album to promote.
The lawyers are trying to work out new testing rules. The couple’s next court hearing is Nov. 26.
